Sisters in Seven Women's Committee Meeting
Thanks to all those who came out to our meeting on December 6th for our women's meeting. OPSEU women met new OPSEU women from different work places and exchanged great ideas for the upcoming year and awesome discussion on women within our community.
The main focus of the evening was discussion on women and violence. We had a moment of silence for the fourteen women who lost their lives in 1989 just because they were women.
Deb Mithrush from Local 731 gave an enlightening talk on statistics and the Faye Peterson House here in Thunder Bay. As like any other woman who wears more than one hat, Deb is an employment advisor during the day and works part time at Faye Peterson on her time off.
As like all the other women who attended last night, all of us wear more than one hat. There was much learning around the table last night. It is amazing how the passion comes out of women when they get together and talk. We have decided to put together a letter that we will send to our city council to express our concerns of the lack of social services that are so needed in our communities especially those who are transitioning in from the outside region.
I will be posting the meeting dates for 2012. I will be doing a regional visit with Mary Cory towards the spring where I would like to hold a women's meeting. I would be looking for assistance from someone in the region to help pull that together.
So please, keep an eye on the Region 7 website for dates and upcoming meetings.
